PopMatters | Review: Uni-Fi Records Presents… Dana Coppafeel & Speak Easy
With burgeoning hip-hop scenes in places like Chicago, Detroit, Indianapolis and Cleveland — it’s easy for a city like Milwaukee, Wisconsin to get lost in the mix of it all. Hailing from a town that’s more famous for its breweries than rap music, Dana Coppafeel and Speak Easy are out to change that. Their first collaborative effort is the brainchild of Uni-Fi Records head honcho, Dima the White Russian. Production is handled by the likes of Frank Dukes, Da Ricanstruckta, CameOne, Klassik and Mammyth. Powered by the first single, “One of These Kids”, the duo comes together nicely in a yin and yang kind of meshing of their talents. Other standout tracks include “Murder They Wrote” and two solo songs, “20/20” performed by Speak Easy and “Stay Focused” performed by Dana Coppafeel. By the end of the EP, you will walk away with a newly found respect of the Milwaukee hip-hop scene. They’re definitely doing their own thing. Don’t sleep.
